Special Effects Add to Realism in 'District 9'
Neill Blomkamp wanted 'District 9' to look as gritty and realistic as possible. To achieve that, he disregarded FX shots that he paid big bucks for, and caked even more dirt onto his 'non-humans'.

@ubersteigen. Kidding me. Avatar is 90% VFX, that's why it won. The production value was extraordinarily larger than D9. Ok, the Aliens do look alot more realistic than Avatar, no doubt about that, but most of the big companies can do the exact same thing, but the sheer scale and variety of VFX in Avatar, is something only a very few VFX houses can achieve.

Im longing for the day when a director shows some guts, and actually makes a "Alien-movie" less naive, less toy-like, and with no ripoffs from other films. It would be much more scary. No traditional hostile story, but an original WELL thought story based on how little we actually knows about Aliens. Usually all the tech-gear is well off, but the story is like all the classical dramas throughout history. And this topic has A LOT of potential, for the right author/director/scriptwriter.

Best action sci fi movie ever. Perfect actor. Awesome special effects, end sequence was amazing. Never once did I think the aliens weren't actually real. Didn't really even thought about it until just now.
