He'll be in good company in a cast that already includes Damon, Sharlto Copley and Jodie Foster. So just a little backround before we get into the controversy...A proposed 'Halo' movie with Peter Jackson set to produce and 'District 9's' Neil Blomkamp attached to direct fell apart do to budget concerns in 2007. Rumors of the movie going forward came up again earlier this year when set photos surfaced, but they were soon squashed when it was revealed to be photos from a low-budget, fan-made film. There has been little talk about the long-awaited film since...until now. Information included in a French press release for a book based on the videogame suggests a movie is planned for release in 2012 and is being made in cooperation with some major names. The quote read: "A film adaptation is set in 2012. It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks," HOWEVER, Microsoft has already shot down rumors of a rebirth for the Halomovie. Heres a quote from them: "The information in the press release in question is inaccurate. We have no plans for a Halo feature film right now. And exclusive interview with the director and lead actor of District 9. District 9 is in UK cinemas now. Over twenty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees from their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africas District 9 as the worlds nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens welfare. MNU will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens powerful weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when MNU begins evicting the non-humans from District 9, with MNU field agents responsible for moving them to a new camp. One of the MNU field operatives, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts an alien virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.
